‘Aman’ range of shelves by Andy Mitchell
It was designer Andy Mitchell’s simple solution to creating an unfixed shelving system that first attracted us to his wooden ‘Aman’ collection. Cut so that it does away with the flat bottom, the shelves can balance sturdily against a wall, and can be moved easily to wherever they’re required. However, on closer inspection, we noticed there was something even more innovative about these oak shelves – there are no joint fixings. Instead, Mitchell and his design studio, Avad, have developed their revolutionary and never-seen-before ‘shub’ joint, replacing the need for any adhesives or plastic and metal fittings, the boards slide firmly together with no interruptions to the design. They’re such a genius design; we’ve got ourselves onto Avad’s tailor-made list and are ordering an entire library.
